What “082/081” means, and what counts as a secret rare
Abyss Eye (Japanese set code M5) is a MEGA Expansion Pack that went on sale in Japan on May 22, 2026 [1]. Its main set is 81 cards — which is why every number on this page reads xxx/081. Anything numbered 082/081 or higher sits outside that main set: those are the “secret” cards, and there are 37 of them, taking the full set to 118.
That numbering quirk is exactly why card-number searches are so common for this set. A card pulled from a pack shows 085/081, which looks like a typo, so people search the number rather than the name. Here is what the four secret rarities mean:

Two rows need a caveat. 089/081 Thievul shows zero TCGplayer listings on August 4, 2026 — we are reporting the count as recorded, and we cannot tell you whether that reflects demand or simply nobody listing it. 110/081 Rust Syndicate Grunt is the one card in the set whose tracked price did not move at all in 28 days; with only 11 listings, that is as likely to mean a thin market as a stable one. What the last 28 days show: down across the board
Putting all 37 cards side by side turns up something a single-card page cannot show. Between July 7 and August 4, 2026:
- 36 of 37 fell. Not one card in the set rose. The single exception, Rust Syndicate Grunt SR, was flat to the cent.
- The median card lost 20.1% of its market price.
- The two steepest falls both landed almost exactly on 50%: Gladion’s Showdown SAR (116/081, US$34.24 → US$17.05, −50.2%) and Mega Excadrill ex SR (101/081, US$9.92 → US$4.95, −50.1%).
- The chase cards fell least in percentage terms. The Mega Darkrai ex MUR was down only 3.6%, and the Darkrai SAR 27.0% — but 27% of a US$394 card is a US$106 move, far larger in cash terms than anything in the AR tier.
We are not going to tell you this is a buying opportunity. A set-wide decline this uniform, roughly ten to eleven weeks after a Japanese launch, is what ordinary post-release supply looks like: boxes are still being opened, listings keep arriving, and prices settle. It could keep settling. What the data supports is a narrower statement — as of August 4, 2026, every card in this set costs less than it did four weeks earlier — and what you do with that is your call, not ours.
One caveat we want to be explicit about: our tracking series for this set begins on July 7, 2026. We cannot show you what these cards did between the May 22 release and early July, and we are not going to estimate it.
The three price tiers
Read as a collecting target rather than a price list, the 37 cards fall into three bands.
Under US$1 — the Trainer SRs
Five of the eighteen Super Rares are Item and Tool cards trading below a dollar: Iron Defender (US$0.48), Energy Switch (US$0.75), Dark Bell (US$0.79), Crushing Hammer (US$0.85) and Brave Bangle (US$0.87). Terrific Bomb sits just above at US$1.20. These exist mostly for players finishing a deck. If your goal is “own one card from every secret rarity in the set,” this is where you start.
US$2 – US$17 — the Art Rares and most Super Rares
All twelve Art Rares sit between US$2.37 and US$11.09, and this is the busiest part of the set for us: it is where nearly all of our own Abyss Eye sales happen. Here are eight of them, photographed in our shop — these are real copies we listed, not stock images or scans.
Every photo above is a copy that passed through our own hands — most are Near Mint, one or two are Lightly Played, and we show them as they are rather than substituting a cleaner card. The exact grade is on each listing. Goldeen (084/081), Dhelmise (088/081), Primarina (085/081) and Toucannon (092/081) are the four Art Rares we have no current listing photo for.

Slowbro 087/081 is the outlier, at more than four times the cheapest AR in the same set (US$11.09 against Thievul’s US$2.37). It is also the only Art Rare here with a meaningful graded market (see below). Every other AR sits between US$2.37 and US$6.32 — which is why collecting the full AR run is realistic in a way that collecting the SAR run is not.
US$17 and up — the chase cards
The six Special Art Rares span US$17.05 (Gladion’s Showdown) to US$287.81 (Mega Darkrai ex), and the single Mega Ultra Rare — Mega Darkrai ex 118/081 — sits above all of them at US$479.75. One Super Rare joins them: Misty’s Spirit 108/081 at US$30.13, the only non-SAR, non-MUR card in the set trading above US$17. The Darkrai cards account for the top two slots by a wide margin; the next most expensive card in the set, Morpeko ex SAR, is under a fifth of the Darkrai SAR — we track its raw and PSA 10 prices daily in a separate report. Worth knowing if you are comparing against an English copy: that ordering flips across the language line — the English Mega Darkrai ex gold trades below its Special Illustration Rare, one of four English pairs out of seven where the gold is the cheaper of the two. The two Mega Evolutions in this set are each printed at two secret rarities, and that gap is the most useful thing on this page if you are shopping rather than completing. Same Pokémon, same set — different artwork, roughly a 4× price difference:

PSA 10 data exists for only 8 of the 37

Only two lines here are worth doing arithmetic on. Mega Darkrai ex SAR (120 tracked sales) and Slowbro AR (80 tracked sales) have enough volume to describe as markets; the MUR, at 20 sales, is thin but not trivial. The rest do not qualify: a median built on one sale is an anecdote with a decimal point, and the eye-catching multiples — Primarina at roughly 32× raw, Misty’s Spirit at about 12× — are exactly the numbers most likely to be wrong. We have listed them with their sample sizes rather than leaving them out, because a reader who finds a single US$139.99 Primarina sale elsewhere deserves to know it was one sale.
The other 29 cards have no PSA 10 data in our tracking at all. That is not a hidden signal about their quality; it means nobody is submitting and selling them in volume yet, roughly ten weeks after release. What we actually have from this set
We are a Japan-based shop selling Japanese singles, so our Abyss Eye stock is whatever we have sourced and condition-checked — not the full 37. Over the last nine weeks (June 1 – August 2, 2026) we sold 54 Abyss Eye singles, and the shape of that is worth knowing: 48 of the 54 were Art Rares, most of them between US$4 and US$9. Armarouge (10), Fomantis (9) and Silvally (6) led on units; the SAR and SR cards moved in ones and twos.
That matches what we see in the numbers above. The ARs are the part of this set people are actually completing.

How many secret rares are in Abyss Eye?
37 — numbered 082/081 through 118/081. That breaks down as 12 Art Rares, 18 Super Rares, 6 Special Art Rares and 1 Mega Ultra Rare. Added to the 81-card main set, Abyss Eye totals 118 cards.
Why does the card number say 081 when there are 118 cards?
The denominator refers to the main set, which is 81 cards. Japanese sets number the secret rares beyond that denominator, so a card can legitimately read 118/081. It is not a misprint, and it is not an indication of value on its own — 102/081 trades under fifty cents while 118/081 trades near US$480.

Because our tracking begins on July 7, we cannot and do not report any change measured from the May 22, 2026 release — the 28-day window is the limit of what we hold, not the life of the set.
