Before you read that as a card losing its shine, here is the more useful finding: it isn’t the card, it’s the set. Every one of the 25 Abyss Eye cards we track above US$4 is down over the same window, with a median decline of 28.6% — Morpeko sits ninth, right in the middle. What is specific to this card is happening on the graded side, and that is where the rest of this report goes.

Morpeko ex comes in two Japanese prints — check which one you’re pricing
Abyss Eye (M5) is a Japanese MEGA Expansion Pack released in Japan on May 22, 2026 [1]. Morpeko ex appears in it twice, and the two prints are more than four times apart in price. If you have seen a number quoted somewhere and it did not match what you found, this is almost always why.

The SAR is the full-art chase print and is where both the value and the volatility sit. The SR is the affordable way to own the same Pokémon from the same set. There is also an English printing of this card — collectors call it the Morpeko ex SIR from Pitch Black — and English-language pack openings are a large part of why interest in this card has been climbing through August. We don’t track the English print daily, so every price in this report is the Japanese one. We would rather say that plainly than quote you a number we haven’t verified.

We track this exact card daily — the Japanese printing, Near Mint, using TCGplayer market price as the reference. Our series begins on July 7, 2026, seven weeks after the set’s release, so we cannot show the curve back to launch; what follows is the window we actually hold.

Two details the weekly table hides. First, across all 36 tracked days the SAR recorded only two up-ticks, and both were under US$0.30 — this has been a one-directional slide, not a choppy market. Second, there was a genuine pause: from July 21 to July 31 the price held between US$52.42 and US$52.91, eleven days of stability, before the August leg down resumed. The steepest single move in our series was July 18–19, when the card dropped from US$59.50 to US$55.09 in a day.
The SR print has followed the same shape at a smaller amplitude, moving from US$12.40 to US$9.27. The gap between the two prints is currently 4.6×, which is narrower than it was in early July (5.1×) — the chase print has given up more ground than the cheap one.
It’s the set, not the card
This is the part that changes how you should read the number above. We tracked every Abyss Eye card in our series that traded above US$4 on July 7 — 25 cards across every rarity — and compared it to August 18. All 25 are down. The median decline is 28.6%. Morpeko ex SAR ranks ninth-steepest of the 25, which places it squarely inside the normal range for the set rather than as an outlier.

Two things stand out. The steepest falls are not the chase cards — they are mid-tier SRs and one SAR that had been priced well above where the set has settled. And the single card that has essentially held its value is the most expensive one: the Mega Darkrai ex MUR 118/081, down just 3.6% while everything beneath it gave up a quarter or more. Whatever is repricing Abyss Eye, it is compressing the middle of the set, not the top. So the honest reading of the headline number is not “Morpeko ex is falling.” It is “Abyss Eye is repricing, and Morpeko ex is falling with it, at about the set’s average rate.”
Raw vs PSA 10: the median dropped 27% while sales tripled
Here is what is specific to this card. Alongside raw prices we track median eBay sold prices for graded copies. For Morpeko ex SAR, that series only begins on July 29, 2026 — before then we had no tracked PSA 10 sales at all. In the twenty days since, both numbers moved, in the same direction:

The PSA 10 median fell 27.0% over those twenty days, and the number of sales behind it went from 6 to 19 — a 3.2× increase in the graded copies actually clearing. Read together, those two lines say something the raw price alone doesn’t: graded supply is arriving faster than graded demand is absorbing it. That is a normal thing to happen roughly three months after a Japanese set’s release, as the first big wave of submissions comes back.
The multiple over raw did not move smoothly. It held at 6.0×, widened to 6.7× on August 13 as the raw price fell faster than the graded median, then dropped to 5.4× on August 18 when nine further PSA 10 sales pulled the median down by US$71.25 in five days. Two readings are available and we cannot separate them on this sample: either the graded market repriced, or a handful of cheaper sales landed in a thin median. At 5.4× the gap is still among the wider ones in the set, but it rests on far fewer sales than the set’s established graded markets:

What we’d actually buy in Abyss Eye right now
Pulling the four findings together: the raw price is in a set-wide decline that hasn’t stopped, the pause in late July did not hold, the graded premium is narrowing on a thin sample, and the one card in the set that held its value was the most expensive one. None of that says “don’t buy Morpeko ex.” It says buy the raw card if you want the card, and don’t pay a price that only makes sense if you are grading it — because the 5.4× that would justify grading fees is built on nineteen sales and has fallen from 6.0× in three weeks.
There is a second thing worth saying, and it comes from our own shelf rather than the market. Across our store over the past seven weeks, the Abyss Eye cards that collectors have actually been buying are not the chase prints — they are the Art Rares, at a fraction of the price. That band currently runs from US$2.22 to US$10.21:

Is Morpeko ex SAR 115/081 going to keep falling?
We don’t make price predictions. What our data shows as of August 18, 2026: the raw price is down 31.9% over 42 days with only two up-ticks recorded, and the one pause in the series — eleven days in late July — did not hold. The set around it is down a median 28.6% over the same window. Nothing in our series suggests the decline has stopped; nothing in it tells you when it will.
Should I buy the SAR 115/081 or the SR 100/081?
Same Pokémon, same set, US$42.72 and US$9.27 respectively on August 18, 2026. Only the SAR has the alternate full-art illustration, so if that artwork is what you want, the SR is not a substitute. If you are completing the set or working to a budget, the SR gives you the card for roughly a fifth of the price and has fallen less over our tracking window (−25.2% against −31.9%).
Is it worth grading this card?
Our numbers argue for caution. The PSA 10 median is US$230.00 from 19 tracked sales as of August 18, 2026, down from US$315.00 on July 29 — and the multiple over raw has narrowed from 6.0× to 5.4× in three weeks while the number of graded copies selling tripled. A multiple that is falling on rising supply is the opposite of the setup you want before paying grading and shipping fees. We track one PSA 9 sale at US$53.00, which is not enough to price the 9 outcome at all.
Why is the Japanese price falling if the card is so popular right now?
Popularity and price aren’t the same thing, and the timing matters. Abyss Eye launched in Japan on May 22, 2026, so Japanese boxes have been opened for nearly three months — while the English-language pack openings putting this card in front of collectors have been appearing through August. Meanwhile the first wave of graded copies is now clearing: our tracked PSA 10 sales went from 6 to 19 between July 29 and August 18. Attention arriving late and supply arriving steadily can, and here do, coexist.
